큰 비밀

만일 누군가 맹인으로 태어나 20년을 살다가 의학의 도움으로 눈을 뜨게 되었다면 어떨까? 아마 모든 것이 너무나 신비롭고 황홀할 것이다. 온갖 꽃들과 수목들, 새들과 산천, 그리고 우주는 너무나 신비롭 고 경이롭기만 하다!

성경 속에도 신비하고 경이로운 비밀이 가득하게 담겨있다. 하나님은 성경 안에 많은 진리를 숨겨 놓으 시고 시대를 따라 열어 주시며 계시하셨다. 성경 속에는 하나님이 우리에게 꼭 알리고자 하는 큰 비밀 이 네 가지가 있다.

첫째, 예수 그리스도가 비밀이다. 골로새서 2장 2절에 바울은 하나님의 비밀인 그리스도를 깨닫게 하려 고 애썼던 것을 말한다. 예수님이 하나님의 아들이며 세상의 구세주로 오실 것을 구약 4천 년을 통해 성경에 수없이 예언해 놓았다. 하나님이 정하신 때에 예수님은 이 땅에 육체를 입고 오셔서 죄인들을 위해 자신을 십자가에 제물로 내어 주셨고 죽은 지 삼 일 후에 부활하셨다. 하나님은 이 비밀을 세상에 널리 알리시고자 하신 것이다. 우리는 이 놀라운 비밀을 세상 사람들이 밝히 알도록 전해야 한다.

둘째, 복음이 비밀이다. 에베소서 6장 19절에서 바울은 “복음의 비밀”을 전하고자 했던 것을 말하였다. 복음은 예수님이 시작하신 것으로, 누구든지 예수 그리스도를 믿으면 구원의 은혜와 능력이 임하게 된 다는 것이다. 사람들은 복음을 미련하게 생각할 수 있지만, 복음은 하나님의 지혜이며 은혜의 방편이다. 예수님이 인류의 죄를 위해 속죄의 제물이 되셨으니 하나님은 누구든지 믿는 자를 죄에서 구원하시기로 하셨다. 구원은 우리의 노력이나 행위로 될 수 없다. 구원은 오직 믿음으로 말미암아 하나님의 은혜로 이루어지는 것이다 (에베소서 2:8). 이것은 너무나 신비한 복음의 비밀이다!

셋째, 예수님의 재림이 비밀이다. 요한계시록 10장 7절에 기록하기를 “일곱째 천사가 소리 내는 날 그 의 나팔을 불려고 할 때에 하나님이 그의 종 선지자들에게 전하신 복음과 같이 하나님의 비밀이 이루어 지리라”고 했다. 성경을 보면 마지막 나팔 소리와 함께 예수님이 재림하실 것을 예언하고 있다 (살전 4:16, 마 24:31). 예수님이 재림하실 때 믿는 자들이 영광스러운 부활의 몸으로 변화되어 하늘로 들림 받게 된다. 이것이 감추어진 비밀이라 했다.

넷째, 천국이 비밀이다. 마태복음 13장 11절에서 예수님은 “천국의 비밀”을 제자들에게 알려 주시고자 하셨다. 천국은 믿고 구원받은 자들 안에 임한다고 하였다. 그래서 예수님을 믿는 자들은 이 땅에서부터 천국을 부분적으로 체험하며 살다가 장차 하나님과 영원히 사는 곳이다. 그곳은 너무나 아름답고 영광 스러우며 신비한 곳이다. 어떤 이들에게는 천국이 감추어져 있지만, 어떤 이들은 믿음의 눈으로 천국을 바라보고 소망하며 이 땅에 살아간다. 이런 비밀을 가진 자들은 세상을 당당하게 살며 승리할 것이다.

잠언 25장 2절에 기록하기를 “일을 숨기는 것은 하나님의 영화요 일을 살피는 것은 왕의 영화라”고 했 다. 하나님은 진리를 신비하고 비밀스럽게 많이 감추어 놓으셨다. 그리고 사람들이 하나님이 감추어 놓 은 보화를 캐내어 취하도록 하신다. 그러면 그것이 우리에게 영화가 되고 복이 된다는 것이다. 성경에는 우리가 죄로 말미암아 멸망하지 않고 영생에 이르는 영적인 비밀이 가득 담겨있다. 지혜로운 자들은 그 비밀을 알고 취하기 위해 수고하고 땀흘린다. 그리고 하나님은 마음이 가난하고 낮아진 자들에게 하나 님 나라의 비밀을 알게 하셨다 (마태복음 8:10). 우리는 이 큰 비밀을 가진 자가 되어야겠다.

The Great Mysteries

Imagine a person born blind who, after living in darkness for twenty years, gains sight through medical grace. How awe-inspiring and mesmerizing everything would seem! The kaleidoscope of flowers, the lush trees, the soaring birds, the majestic mountains and rivers-the entire universe would feel profoundly mysterious and wondrous!

Similarly, the Scriptures are brimming with sacred and glorious mysteries. Throughout the ages, God concealed profound truths within the Bible, revealing them progressively according to His divine timeline. Among these, there are four great mysteries that God earnestly desires to impart to us:

First, Jesus Christ is the Mystery. In Colossians 2:2, the Apostle Paul speaks of his fervent struggle to help believers understand the mystery of God, which is Christ Himself. Throughout the four-thousand-year Old Testament era, countless prophecies foretold that Jesus would come as the Son of God and the Savior of the world. At the appointed time, Jesus took on human flesh, offered Himself on the cross as a sacrifice for sinners, and rose from the dead on the third day. God intended for this mystery to be proclaimed far and wide, and it is our calling to clearly convey this marvelous truth to the world.

Second, the Gospel is the Mystery. In Ephesians 6:19, Paul desires to boldly proclaim “the mystery of the gospel.” Initiated by Jesus, the gospel promises that whoever believes in Christ will receive the grace and power of salvation. While the world may view the gospel as foolishness, it is, in truth, the wisdom of God and the ultimate channel of His grace. Because Jesus became the propitiation for human sin, God ordained that anyone who believes shall be saved. Salvation cannot be earned through human effort or merit; it is accomplished solely by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). What a profoundly mysterious gospel this is!

Third, the Second Coming of Christ is the Mystery. Revelation 10:7 declares, “In the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.” The Scriptures prophesy that Christ will return with the blast of the final trumpet (1 Thessalonians 4:16, Matthew 24:31). At His glorious return, believers will be transformed into resurrected bodies of glory and caught up into the heavens—a sacred secret long hidden in God’s divine plan.

Fourth, the Kingdom of Heaven is the Mystery. In Matthew 13:11, Jesus sought to reveal “the secrets of the kingdom of heaven” to His disciples. The Kingdom of Heaven dwells within those who believe and are saved. Thus, believers experience a foretaste of heaven here on earth before dwelling eternally with God in glory—a place of exquisite beauty, majesty, and mystery. Though hidden from the eyes of many, those with spiritual vision look toward this heavenly realm with longing and hope as they navigate earthly life. Those who hold this divine truth live victoriously with unshakable dignity.

Proverbs 25:2 states, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” God has embedded rich, divine truths deep within sacred mysteries, inviting us to dig out these hidden treasures as our own. In doing so, it becomes our glory and everlasting blessing. The Bible is packed with spiritual mysteries that rescue us from perishing in sin and lead us into eternal life. The wise spare no labor or sacrifice to discover and embrace these truths. Moreover, God delights in revealing the secrets of His kingdom to the humble and poor in spirit (Matthew 8:10). May we all become faithful stewards who possess and cherish these great mysteries.
